Early Signs of Fascination

The next two movies that come to mind go hand in hand because of the people that starred in them. I know it should probably be one entry at a time, but it can't be cheatin' if I made up the game.:) "Grease" and "Two of A Kind" are my next choices. Both movies starred Olivia Newton John and John Travolta as the star crossed lovers. Being a young kid at the time, I think I assumed on some level that these two were a couple because, in my limited exposure to movies, they were in two of them. I think these movies are so significant to me because they were my first true acknowledgment of a couple. I also wanted to BE Olivia Newton John at one point as her Sandra Dee persona. Even as I got older I always identified with the struggle Sandy had to be accepted despite being somewhat of a "goodie goodie". Of course, now I can look back on it and realize that "Grease" was by far the superior film, however, both still hold special place in my hearts regardless.

Soundtrack to My Life

On that note, I always listen to songs and sometimes I find one that inspires me much in the same way the movies have. So why not have a soundtrack too? It would be impossible to recall all the songs that have meant something to me over the course of my life, but my current "anthem" is "More To Life" by Stacie Orrico. The song is pop. The message is borderline religious but the lyrics really hit home.

The Movies of My Life

So I am reading a book that has a very interesting premise. It's called "The Movies of My Life" by Alberto Fuguet. While I find myself not really getting into the book itself all that much, the main character reevaluates his life as seen through the 50 movies that define his life's pivotal moments. At any rate, it has gotten me to thinking about what movies have defined MY life. I haven't come up with all of them yet, but the first one would have to be "ET". It was the first time I went to the movie theater and, as most children did, I got so attached to ET that I cried all the way home. I distinctly remember the car ride home and lying down and crying and not being able to stop. It is pivotal for me because it is the first time, that on some level, that I think I really understood loss. I was so sad because I knew I couldn't see ET again and it was the first time I remember not knowing if things were going to be OK. Of course, little did I know at the time, but life is full of those types of moments...
